Phosphorus pentasulfide can be directly produced by the combination of yellow phosphorus and sulfur.
Phosphorus pentasulfide is mainly used in the production of high-efficiency organic phosphorus and matches. It is also used as a flotation agent for non-ferrous metal ores, an additive for high-grade lubricating oil, and in the rubber industry. Phosphorus pentasulfide can be packed in iron drums lined with plastic bags, and the packaging should have a clear "Flammable material" label. It should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated warehouse, isolated from heat sources and fire, with the packaging kept sealed to prevent moisture, direct sunlight and impact. It must not be stored or transported together with oxidants.
